This has to be good news! Despite the fact that New Hampshire went narrowly for Kerry in 2004 (and nearly went for Gore in 2000) the local political scene, including the state legislature has always been bright red. And often with ties to the wacky religous right. Merricack was one of the first nationally to respond to the "start with the grassroots" effort promoted by Ralp Reed/Jerry Falwell, etc by electing a truly crackpot School Committee.

Well, there have been nine special elections since November, 2004 and the dems have won eight of them!!! That includes the seat in Londonderry that no dem has held for 96 years. see link

The night before last they picked up another seat about 6 miles from where the boy president would give a speech the next day. (I don't believe he mentioned it.) link

Like everyone, I was pretty disappointed when I first saw the Raw Story piece about "one indictment" submitted and "at least" 2 will be sought. That and the clear impression that whatever was brought would center on perjury. My heart sank. Last November all over. The wording didn't seem right though, with everything we've been hearing about how deep Fitz has drilled down. Then I remembered having read the Larry Franklin indictment in the AIPAC case so I went back and found it. It's described as "an indictment" and is titled "Superseding Indictment" (singular, see?) But it's 26 pages, includes 5 counts and 3 defendants. Just one document, one "indictment" but there's a whole lot of fun going on there. Take a look

Am I crazy or does this mark a major shift in the way the MSM is characterizing the war. It's been widely reported that the Sunnis, and particularly former Bathists, make up a substantial portion of the insurgency. But Reuters, in its article on the assination of the Sadam trial defense lawyer says this:

"The assassination of Janabi, who Baghdad lawyers said had been an old personal friend of the former dictator, came as Saddam's formerly dominant Sunni Arab minority wages a bloody insurgency against the Shi'ite- and Kurdish-led government and its U.S. backers."

Now it all makes sense to me. Why would even these idiots make a choice like Harriet Miers? It pleases absolutely no one and seriously pisses off those that they need the most.

Now we find out that Rove has likely been indicted and has been so informed. Stephanopoulos says his sources report that the investigation includes the potential direct involvement of the president and the vice-president. (How the hell can it NOT?? How big is Air Force One, anyway. Especially in the frenzied war room mentality that must have been going on the day after Wilson's NYT piece came out. And you KNOW Scooter wouldn't be leaking classified information without the knowledge of Darth Cheney.) It was just the typical high level, well disciplined and organized (and almost universally successful) political disinformation campaign that we have seen so often from these Mayberry morons. Only this time the lies and crimes directly affected national security so the CIA pushed back and the personal angle (disclosure of an individual agent's identity) really got the public's attention.

According to today's article by John Deanhttp://writ.news.findlaw.com/dean/20050715.html , if a reporter told Rove about Valerie Plame's CIA connection "it could make for some interesting pairing under the federal conspiracy statute (which was the statute most commonly employed during Watergate)." Dean was referring to the suggestion that some have made that Judith Miller may have told Rove about Plame. But since the NYT is now reporting that Rove was told by Novak http://www.nytimes.com/2005/07/15/politics/15rove.html? the same should apply.

I HATE to post yet another Rove diary but I've read every single one and I don't think any one diary has gotten it quite right (at least "right" as it has lately come clear to me--but who knows--maybe I'm the one who doesn't get it). While it's still clear in my head, I want to try to spit it out and see if it's as obvious to others.

This case isn't about identifying a covert agent, and hasn't been for a long, long time. It's about disclosure of classified information which is a violation of the Espionage Act and a more serious crime. It happens that the classified material (primarilly an "INR" Report by State Dept intelligence officials regarding the possibillity that Saddam was attempting to obtain urainium yellowcake and Joe Wilson's trip to Niger) was used by the administration to discredit Wilson by pointing out what they say was his wife's role. But that identification is NOT what Fitzgerald is after. Someone leaked the contents of that classified file all over town trying to get ahead of Wilson's story.
